Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program
For low- and very low-income families, maintaining one’s
home on limited financial resources can prove quite challenging. The Illinois
Housing Development Authority’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund realizes this
challenge and offers an Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program to help low- and
very low- income families across the state.
PARTICIPATING SPONSORS
Through a partnership with the Illinois Department of
Commerce and Community Affairs (DCCA), IHDA provides approved sponsors with
funding to administer private rehabilitation programs to local residents.
Sponsors must be local government units and must be approved by DCCA prior to
funding. Individual Citizens are not eligible to apply for Trust Fund
financing.
Requests for rehabilitation projects are typically
originated and identified through a municipal hearing process, with an
application submitted to the Trust Fund for approval. Trust Fund applications
are accepted once each year for this program and must meet certain criteria to
be eligible for the program.
HELPING HOMEOWNERS
Under the existing program, grants of up to $3,000 for
low-income households and $5,000 for very-low income households are available
to bring existing homes up to required building codes. All homeowners are
required to apply for funding through a local sponsor agency.
